Snetogorsko-Murovitsky

The nature monument is located on the right bank of the Velikaya River from the village of Snyatnaya Gora to the village of Murovitsy and consists of two cluster sites. The first cluster site (Snetogorsky) is located on the lands of the city of Pskov and the village of Snyatnaya Gora. The second cluster site (Hotitsko-Murovitsky) is located in the Piskovichi Volost of the Pskov district. It is a unique landscape complex of the mouth of the right bank of the Velikaya River with open geological outcrops, ancient beams and outcrops of underground waters, rich and peculiar vegetation. On the bottom of the beams there are streams formed by outlets to the surface of the underground waters. These beams are interesting geomorphological objects, and, in addition, they have created favorable conditions for the growth of plants unique to the region.

The mouth of the right bank of the Velikaya River from the village of Snyatnaya Gora to the village of Murovitsy is a single landscape complex with unique geological, geomorphological, hydrological, botanical and zoological objects.

The right bank of the Velikaya River is very steep, precipitous, 2-3 meters high, in some places 15-18 meters high. On the southern edge of Mount Snyatnaya Gora there is a stratotypical outcrop of dolomites and marls of the Snetogorskiye layers of the Sargaev horizon, represented by vertical cliffs with a height of more than 8 meters. Exposures of Devonian rocks are visible under the Snetogorsky monastery. The precipice of the steep bank of the Velikaya River near the settlement of Piskovichi is represented by outcrops of the Shventoisky horizon, in which the fossil remains of an ancient fauna are found. On the territory of the Pskov region, there are no more open geological outcrops with distinct boundaries between the different ages of the Sargaev horizon.

In the flora, there are 334 species of higher plants belonging to 210 genera and 60 families.

The total area of the natural monument is 46.80 hectares.

It was declared a specially protected natural area of regional importance in 1995.
